Quota reform leader Rashed Khan
Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Monday has placed Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, on a five-day remand in a case filed under the controversial Section 57 of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raihan Ul Islam passed the remand order after Sub-Inspector (SI) of Detectives Branch (DB) of police Sajibuzzaman, also the investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand for him.
Lawyers Jaidur Rahman Zahid and Md Nuruzzaman filed a bail petition for Rashed seeking the cancellation of the remand.
Hearing both sides, the court placed quota reform leader Rashed on a five-day remand rejecting the bail petition.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) law affairs secretary Al Nahian Khan Joy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station yesterday on charge of making derogatory statements about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Rashed was arrested from the capital's Bhasantek area around 12:30pm yesterday by detectives and was shown arrest in a case filed under controversial Section 57 of ICT Act.
The case statement reads that Rashed went live in Facebook on June 27 and made “derogatory remarks” about the prime minister. Besides, he had been “spreading misleading information to create chaos on the university campus”.
