Staff Correspondent: The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) authority has started the primary process to demolish the BGMEA Bhaban at Hatirjheel in the capital.
The officials of RAJUK went to the spot with modern equipment around 9:00am on Tuesday to bring down the 16 storied building of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Rajuk director (Admin), Khandakar Oliur Rahman confirmed the matter to media around 10:30am.
“We have told them to remove their valuables within next two hours. Later, electricity and gas connections will be removed,” he said.
On April 3, 2011, the High Court ordered demolition of the 16-storey building as it was constructed in defiance of relevant laws, calling it a 'cancer' in the lake.
