Rail tracks collapse due to flood in Rangpur

Staff Correspondent: Rail communication has collapsed due to flood in Rangpur division which worried home goers ahead of Eid.

More than 125 slippers have collapsed and created several big holes in 100 kilometer on the route.   Apart from this, bridges were broken and flood water washed away rail embankment somewhere.

Though repair works are ongoing, but it need time to restore the rail communication.

Rail Authorities could not tell any specific time when the rail track will be restored. They however said it might take two weeks.

Rail authorities believe that the damages of rail communication caused by flood might be at least Tk 20 crore. Currently 22 trains including two inter-city trains were suspended on these routes.

When contacted with west regional officials, it seemed that they were in doubt over restoring the trail communication before Eid.

According to west region Rajshahi head office, flood caused more damages of rail communication in Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon and Kurigram districts.

According to sources, rail track of 120 feet washed away by the flood water at Hatibandha of Lalmonirhat. It is currently unclear whether the track will be restored.

Two bridges were broken due to flood in Kurigram district which took long time to be repaired.

As a result, rail communication with Kurigram is currently snapped.
