Railway line in Gopalganj awaits inauguration

Badol Saha, Gopalganj: The construction work of a 44 km new railway line has been completed at the cost of Tk 1,200 crore. Now it awaits inauguration.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the railway line at any day of this month.

The railway line has been extended up to Gobra area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila from Bhatiapara of Kashiani upazila via Gopalganj.

Expressing heartiest gratitude to the Prime Minister, the residents of Gopalganj extended their thanks to her. Now the residents are very happy with the implementation of this project, they said.

Bangladesh railway assistant inspector Khandaker Shahidul Islam said, “We have examined the rail route on trial basis whether it is fit for use. We will submit a report in this regard to the government. After the report submission, the railway line will be inaugurated at a convenient time of this month.”

Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman Sarker said this project will ensure socio-economic development of the people in this region. The railway line which was once a dream to the inhabitants of Goplaganj is now visible.

Two contract firms—Max and Toma Group—started the construction work of the extended railway line in November of 2015.
