Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation has called a work abstention of transport workers for October 28 and 29 demanding amendment to the Road Transport Act.
Central committee Vice-President Rahim Box Dudu made the announcement at a rally at Central Bus Terminal in Rangpur city on Wednesday afternoon.
Leaders and activists of 22 organizations of 8 districts participated in the rally.
President of Rangpur Road Transport Workers Federation Akhter Hossain Badal presided over the meeting and Federation General Secretary Usman Ali was present as the chief guest.
They said transport workers would go for a 48-hour work abstention from October 28 if their demands, including the repeal of the provision for prosecution under Section 302 of the Penal Code for death caused by reckless driving, were not meet by October 27.
They also threatened to go for countrywide transport strike if the demands were not made.
