Rape accused killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: A rape accused was killed a ‘gunfight’ with RAB members in the district early Monday.

The gunfight took at Amirabad in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram.

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 27, owner of a coaching centre, and an accused in a case filed over violating a Class-IX student.

He had been on the run since the case was filed against him.

Md Mashkur Rahman, assistant director (media) of Rab-7, said tipped off, a team of Rab conducted a drive in the area. Sensing presence of the elite force members, Saiful opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

After the gunfight, the RAB team recovered Saiful's dead body from the spot.
On April 12, Saiful reportedly tied up the hands and legs of the girl and violated her.
