'Rice price will come down soon'

Secretariat Correspondent: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed assured that the price of rice will come down soon.

The minister made the assurance while talking to reporters at a press briefing in the secretariat on Wednesday.

Tofail said the government is going to import 2.5 lakh tonnes of rice from Vietnam. That rice is expected to arrive soon in Bangladesh.

Citing that import duty will not have much influence on the import of rice, the commerce minister said, "The price of rice will be declined by TK 6 per kg as the import duty was decreased. The price rice would decline by TK 9 if the import duty was fully withdrawn."
