Rice sale at Tk 10 per kg begins

Secretariat Correspondent: Rice sale at Tk 10 per kilogram to 5 million ultra-poor families under the 'Food-Friendly Programme' began on Saturday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme in 2016.

According to the policy, 5 million ultra-poor families are given rice at Tk 10 per kg across the country in five months- March, April, September, October and November- every year.

According to sources of the Food Ministry, each of the 5 million family will get 30 kg of rice at Tk 10 per kg in every month. So, around 2.5 crore people, when each family comprises of five members on average, will get the facility in a year.
