Ride-apps get nod

Senior Correspondent: The cabinet has given an approval for popular ride hailing mobile apps like Uber and Pathao under a framework of fresh guidelines.

The approval came at the regular cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Islam briefed journalists after the meeting.

The cabinet secretary said the Cabinet Division today approved a draft of the “Ride-sharing Service Guidelines 2017” prepared by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The companies willing to provide these services have been asked to mandatorily collect a license from the BRTA, according to the guidelines.
