Rifat murder: Ratul placed on 3-day remand

Barguna Correspondent: Ratul Sikdar, who was shown arrested on Thursday morning as a suspect in a case filed over the sensational murder of Rifat Sharif in Barguna, has been placed on police remand for three days.

Barguna Sadar Police Station Inspector Humayun Kabir, also investigation officer of the case, said Ratul was detained as his name gleaned from the interrogation of other accused arrested in the case and CCTV footage.

Showing him arrested in the case, police sought a five-day remand for him after producing him before the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Later, Judge Gazi Sirajul Islam placed Ratul on three-day remand.

So far, 12 people have been arrested in connection with the murder case. Of them, seven have given confessional statement while the remaining five are on remand on different terms.

Mentionable, about 4/5 criminals including Nayan and Rifat Farajee attacked Rifat Sharif (25) with sharp weapon in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College Wednesday (June 26) morning while her wife was desperately trying to save him.

The entire incident was captured possibly on a mobile phone and footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Immediately after the attack, locals took Rifat to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH).  Later, he was pronounced dead.

Following the death, victim's father Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif filed a case against 12 people with Barguna Sadar Police Station.

Rifat was the only son of Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif at Boro Lobongola village in Burirchar union under Barguna sadar upazila.
