Road crashes took 7,221 lives in 2018

Staff Correspondent: According to a report by the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Organisation, at least 7,221 people were killed in road accidents across the country in 2018.

Apart from this, 5,514 accidents took place throughout the country last year. A total of 15,466 were also injured in these accidents.

Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organisation, made the announcement while addressing a press conference at National Press Club on Friday.   

According to the report, a total of 339 people died and 248 were injured in 370 train accidents the same year. At least 126 people were killed, 234 others injured and 387 went missing in the accidents on waterways. Besides, 55 people lost their lives in five aviation accidents last year.

Former caretaker advisor Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Ayubur Rahman, Public Transport export Abdul Haque, Journalist leader Kuddus Afrad, Syed Ishtiak Reza, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Jotirmoy Barua and others attended the function.
