Robber gang leader killed in Bagerhat ‘gunfight’

A suspected leader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Kodallar canal area under Sundarbans East Zone under Mongla upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Moral, 36, son of Akbar Moral, a resident of Kalabogi village under Dacope upazila in Khulna.

Lt Col Rawshanul Firoz of Rab-6 said they conducted a drive in the area in the morning.

As soon as they reached the area, robbers fired at them triggering a skirmish, he added.

Later, Rab arrested Faruk from the spot and took him to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared him dead, he said.

Faruk formed a gang of seven to eight robbers a few days back and committed robbery in the area, the Rab official said.
