Rule issued against BCB committee

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has issued a rule asking the authority concerned of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as to why its incumbent Executive Committee should not be stopped from activities.

An HC vacation bench of Justice SM Emdadul Hoque and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty came up with the rule on Tuesday.

Earlier, the bench heard the petition on Monday and set Tuesday for passing its order.

Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali along with Barrister Mahbub Shafique moved for the petition while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented BCB in the court.

AJ Mohammad Ali told reporters that HC issued rule over the Executive Committee. Though the rule was issued, but there is no bar to hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCB.

Barrister Mahbub Shafique, on behalf of former BCB director architect Mobasher Hossain, filed the petition.

Earlier, a legal notice was served to BCB asking the BCB president to stop all of his activities along with refraining from holding the upcoming AGM of the board which is scheduled to take place on September 30.

The notice stated that the present committee of the BCB lost its legality following the judgment of the Supreme Court on July 26 this year.

The apex court declared the amendment in the BCB constitution made in 2012 illegal, it also ruled that the BCB is the sole authority to amend its constitution, not the NSC, which can only consent or reject.

The present board had been elected under the 2012 constitution and Nazmul Hasan became the first elected BCB president in that campaign.

Mobasher Hossain went to the court as BCB came with no action within 72 hours after receiving the legal notice.
