Rupa rape and murder case verdict today

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: The verdict in a case filed over the rape and murder of college student Zakia Sultana Rupa will be pronounced today (Monday).

Earlier on February 5, Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abul Mansur Miah fixed the date after hearing the arguments.

The argument hearing was ended on February 4.

On January 3 this year, the trial began through recording statements of witnesses.

Zakia Sultana Rupa was killed after being gang raped in a running bus when she was returning to Sherpur after attending the teacher registration examination in Mymensingh on August 25. 

After recovery of the body from Panchmail area of Madhupur upazila, it was buried at Tangail central graveyard as unidentified body on the following day after a post-mortem. Later, district administration exhumed the Rupa’s body and handed over to family members for proper burial.

On August 28, police arrested five people, including the bus helper, driver and its supervisor, from Mymensingh in this connection.

The five arrestees- Shamim, 26, Akram, 35, Jahangir, 19, Habibur, 45 Safar Ali, 55, later, confessed their involvement with the heinous crime before a court.
