Sports Correspondent: Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam smashed a courageous half-century from 147 balls against West Indies in the second and final Test in Dhaka on Friday.
Shadman hit 76 off 199 balls before he was trapped leg-before wicket by Devendra Bishoo. He designed his long innings hitting six boundaries only.
The debutant put his name in list of 17 Bangladeshi players who scored fifty or more runs in debut matches. If Shadman would manage to score 24 more runs then, his name would be seen beside Aminul Islam Bulbul, Mohammad Ashraful and Abul Hasan Raju. However, the 76-run innings of the debutant is also precious.
Bangladesh did not see any fifty from openers in last 13 Test matches. Today’s fifty and the patience batting from Shadman was really praise worthy.
The new comer also made a record for Bangladesh playing the maximum numbers of balls in debut.
