Shana creates new history in Netherlands

Sports Correspondent: Bangladesh’s premier archer Mohammad Ruman Shana has created a new history by bagging the country’s first-ever medal – a bronze – in the World Archery Championships on Sunday.

Competing in the men’s individual recurve, he beat Mauro Nespoli of Italy by 7-1 set points at s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.

The 24-year-old archer from Khulna has become the second Bangladeshi athlete to qualify for the Olympics on merit after golfer Siddikur Rahman, who took part in the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The ongoing World Archery Championship is considered as the primary qualification tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Shana and Bangladesh team are expected to return home on Tuesday morning.
