Sports Desk: Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan created history by becoming the first Indian player to score a hundred in his 100th ODI.
The left-handed batsman achieved the feat during the fourth ODI of the six-match series against South Africa at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The 32-year-old, who made his ODI debut in 2010 against Australia, notched up his 13th century off 99 balls to become the ninth batsman overall to etch his name in record books. He smashed two sixes and 10 fours during the course of his first century in South Africa.
Dhawan shared a second wicket partnership of 158 with Indian captain Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for only the second time in the series after scoring 75. Kohli has made 393 runs in four innings in helping India take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the six-match series.
Dhawan surpassed former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who made 97 against the same opponents in his 100th ODI in the 1999 World Cup, to get to the milestone.
Having failed in the three-match Test series against South Africa, which India lost 1-2, Dhawan roared back to form in this series, scoring 35, 51 not out and 76 in the first three ODIs.
Australian opener David Warner was the last batsman to achieve the landmark who scored a ton against India in September last year.
