Staff Correspondent: Titumir student Siddiqur Rahman, 23, who sustained injuries in his eyes during a police action in Dhaka’s Shahbagh, has returned home from India on Friday afternoon.

The flight carrying Siddiqur landed at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 3:15pm.

His classmates received him at the Airport. They observe a human chain there folding their eyes with black badge.

Sheikh Farid, classmate of Siddiqur said, he (Siddiqur) will be taken to National Institute of Eye Science & Hospital from the airport.

Earlier, on Thursday, he met Dr Lingam Gopal of at Sankara Nethralaya in India's Chennai. He was given medicine for five to six weeks. The doctor said there is no certainty whether he would get back his eye sight. That means the doctor is not hopeful of getting back the eye sight as 90 percent of retina of his left eye was damaged.  And the right eye was ruined earlier, he added.

Siddiqur was taken to Chennai for advance treatment with the supervision of the Health Ministry on July 27.

On July 20, students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges, including Titumir, were demonstrating at the capital's Shahbagh to press for their seven-point demand that included announcement of their exam dates.

While dispersing the protesters, a policeman shot a teargas canister directly at some agitating students. A video footage of the incident shows Siddiqur collapsed on the street instantly.
