Social media under 24 hrs monitoring from Monday

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) will monitor social networking sites for 24 hours from Monday on the occasion of the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told this to the reporters after a meeting with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and other concerns on Sunday afternoon.

He said, “Administration has already started monitoring social media for 24 hours. We (EC) will also begin this from tomorrow (Monday) so that no quarter can spread any propaganda centering the upcoming election. For this, a self-monitoring team coordinated by ICT officials will be formed.”

“If someone is found to spread propaganda, legal steps will be taken against him/her. Punitive measures will be taken under Digital Security Act and others laws,” he added.
