Sohel Rana among 21 aspirants nomination declared valid

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has cleared the way of 21 candidates including Jatiya Party candidate Masud Parvez (Sohel Rana) to contest the upcoming national polls.

Earlier on December 2, the returning officer (Barishal-2) cancelled the nomination papers of Masud Parvez Sohel Rana. Later, following the appeal of him, EC cleared candidacy of him today.

Till filing of the report, the EC heard 40 appeals filed challenging the rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers during scrutiny. Of those, the EC cleared 21 aspirants to compete for the election while rejected 19 applications.

The list of rejected candidate include- Md Altaf Hossain of Cumilla-1, Samir Quader Chowdhury of Chattogram-6, Md Abdul Latifjan of Feni-3, Md Shahjahan of Brahmanbaria-2, Abdul Majid of Cumilla-2, Osman Hossain of Barishal-6, Dr Sudhir Ranjan Biswas of Pirojpur-3, Md Moniruzzaman of Jhalakathi-1, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar of Patuakhali-1 and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Khan of Patuakhali-2.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam and Kabita Khanom are continuing the hearing appeals at EC’s Agargaon office.
