Speakers for stopping child sexual exploitation

Staff Reporter: A report sharing session titled “Access to Justice of Children Victim of Commercial Sexual Exploitation” and closing workshop of CCSEC Project was held committing to stop child sexual exploitation and trafficking in Bangladesh.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands, under “Combating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CCSEC) Project in Bangladesh” supported by The Delegation of the European Union in Dhaka organized the program at BRAC Centre Inn, in city’s Mohakhali on Tuesday (June 25).

In the meeting, speakers discussed about the access to justice of children victim of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking and suggested the solution of the problems.

Mahmudul Kabir, Country Director of Terre des Hommes Netherlands gave the welcome speech and chaired the dialogue while Advocate Md. Tazul Islam, consultant of the research paper, shared the keynote paper.

In her speech as the chief guest, Aroma Dutta MP, Co-Chair, Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given direction to the ministries concerned to work to stop all kinds of exploitation on children as per SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). She also said no children will be considered as street children within 2025 as the government has taken various initiatives to rehabilitate them.   

Ms. Audrey Maillot, Team Leader –Governance Delegation of the European Union in Bangladesh and Md. Moinul Kabir, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs were the Special Guests while Laila Jasmin Banu, Program Manager, Governance and Human Rights, The Delegation of the European Union in Dhaka was present as discussant.

Audrey Maillot said European Union will continue its funding across the world including Bangladesh to stop sexual exploitation on children and trafficking. She also stressed the coordination between the development organizations and the government on the issue.  

A cultural program was also performed by the Children of Sonar Bangla Children Home in Tangail, an initiative by Society for Social Service (SSS).

As key discussant Md. Moinul Kabir said the government has taken various steps on access to justice of children victim of commercial sexual exploitation in the country. He also thanks Terre des Hommes Netherlands Country Director Mahmudul Kabir for such a great job of working with sexually exploited children. 

CCSEC Project is a consortium initiative of Terre des Hommes - Netherlands working at Dhaka and Tangail which aims to contribute to the elimination of commercial sexual exploitation of children in Bangladesh. Social and Economic Enhancement Program (SEEP) is playing as Secretariat role of the project. The action is shaping the future of red light kids where perhaps one day, no more children would have to expose commercial sexual exploitation.
