Sri Lanka end first day at 321/4 in Colombo

Sport Desk: Host Sri Lanka end Day 1 at 321/4 in the first innings of 1st Test against Bangladesh at Galle International Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.

BKG Mendis scored 166 runs hitting 18 boundaries and two over boundaries. Mendis and N Dickwella remained unbeaten.

Bangladesh bowlers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and Mehedi Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.

Taskin Ahmed stopped the fourth wicket stand between Asela and Kusal at 196 after 43 overs. Asela tried to play the pull shot with an angled bat but the new ball skidded on, took the inside edge and crashed onto the stumps.

Kusal Mendis was batting on 80 as the hosts reached 155-3 by tea after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman removed Dinesh Chandimal in the post-lunch session.

Chandimal managed to score just five runs despite facing 54 balls before edging a catch to Mehedi Hasan at gully.

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Herath won the toss and decided to bat first on a well-rolled placid wicket.

The second Test, which will be Bangladesh's 100th, will be held in Colombo from March 15-19.
