'Stern action to be taken against errant Hajj agencies'

Senior Correspondent: Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman said stern action will be taken against those Hajj agencies who were involved with alleged irregularities in this year' Hajj management.

The minister made the assertion while addressing a press conference at Ashkona Hajj camp in the capital on Wednesday.

He said, "Again the hajj flights of many hajj pilgrims have been cancelled this year. Earlier, the Hajj agencies were made aware of this kind of irregularities. However, the result is same. Again there are complaints about cheating, negligence in this year." 

The minister also said, "A total of 606 hajj pilgrims could not perform hajj this year due to the irregularities of Hajj agencies. Although, many of these hajj pilgrims are sick but the hajj agencies are responsible for it. Action will be taken against these agencies after Hajj."

Religious Affairs Secretary Anisur Rahman, secretary general of the Hajj Agencies' Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) Shahadat Hossain Taslim and others attended the function.
