‘Stop being so hard on yourself, things get better’

Country’s leading and popular news portal, risingbd, is publishing stories on persons who have succeeded in various fields.  As part of its efforts, Nabila Nowshin talked to Enjoy Ahmed Himel who is a young photographer and a content creator. In the candid chat, Enjoy Ahmed Himel shared his working experiences and different sights of his life which are given below.

Hello, how are you?
Hello, I’m alright! Hope you’re doing well too.

From where you completed your O Levels and A levels?
I sat for my O levels and A levels exams from Willes Little Flower School & College.

In which subject you want to study in the future?
I aim to get a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.

Where did you use to live in your childhood? Tell us one memorable story from your childhood!
I used to live in Shariatpur as a kid. This one time I fell off a boat in the middle of Padma River and almost drowned when I was only five but thankfully my Nanu saved me!

Do you want to give any advice to 16 years old-yourself?
I’d say ‘Stop being so hard on yourself, things get better’

Is there anything that you wanted to achieve from your childhood and now you have got it? If yes, then what is this and how do you achieve this?
It’s pretty silly but I was always interested in photography so I never thought I’d own a DSLR. I’m proud to say that I achieved it through a lot of hard work and savings.

At this moment we all know we have got some precious free time. So, what are you doing at this time? Are you doing something productive? Share it with us! We would love to know about your activities.
I’m mainly practicing my hand at Motion Graphics. Other than that, I’m learning new recipes and creating YouTube videos.

What is your dream job?
I want to be a documentary film maker.

I must say you are a talented young photographer and you are doing great in this. Where did all of those start from and who was your inspiration behind it? Tell us the story!
On my 9th birthday, my uncle gifted me with a digital camera which initially drew me towards photography. I used to take very simple stills of sunsets, rain, trees, etc. Slowly, I shifted towards smartphone photography and finally got my camera. With a lot of practice, I eventually developed a portfolio. My professional inspiration is Peter McKinnon, his videos made me learn a lot about camera equipment & gears and I would always try to recreate his work.

As you are a content creator, how do you manage your time to do all of those as a student?
At the moment I have a lot of free time since I’m taking a gap year. But when I do have my classes, I try to maintain a schedule and keep extra time for gigs/personal projects.

Who is your favorite photographer?
Peter McKinnon

Do you do photography by passion? If yes, then do you have any plan to make it to your profession?
My passion really did drive me towards photography and I’ve gotten a number of gigs as an amateur but I do want to take this further but slowly develop more expertise in cinematography.

If there was no thing like photography, then what would you like to choose to do passionately?
A software developer or maybe become a chef.

There are some young people or will come in the future who will also be interested to do photography and create some colourful content, what would be your suggestion for them?
Enjoy the creative side of it because that’s when your work really flourishes. Instead of trying to be like someone else try to practice and find your own style of photography because that’s the only thing which will set you apart from the crowd.

As we all know you are an amazing person and doing your work nicely, but did you face any negativity? If yes, then how did you fight against negativity?
Beginners always get underestimated so I’ve had that to deal with at first. Also when you’re so young in an industry, full of experienced/older photographers people tend not to take you seriously. However, the only way to get recognized is through my work which I’m proud to say I have.

After 10 years where do you want to see yourself?
I like dreaming big so I hope I can get myself to work with big brands like Apple, Adidas, Nike, etc.

In your journey who were always beside you and whom you want to say thanks to the most?
I can only think of my little sister as she helps me a lot with photography and always supports my dreams.

So, in series #30days30souls you are one of those 30 people. How do you feel to take part in this?
I feel very humbled and hope that I can motivate beginners to try their luck on this path.
