Serious reactions have been created in environment of the whole world due to global warming.
The water level of sea is rising as polar ice is being melted following the temperature rise. On the other hand, various types of natural disaster including excessive rain, drought, flash flood, tidal surge, cyclones are increasing. As a result, the damage is increasing in a massive rate. The food production is being interrupted. Wealth worth millions of Taka is being spoiled every year. It is a really matter of concern for Bangladesh.
In a recent report of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said that how Bangladesh is being damaged due to climate change.
The report titled 'State of food security and Nutrition' expressed anxiety that food production may be hampered due to natural disaster. The coastal areas of Bangladesh are being hit by cyclones almost every year. The sweet water is being replaced by salty water of sea. As a result, food production is facing trouble due to lack of fresh water. It is a matter great concern. Initiative is needed to get rid of this situation.
The reports said people in natural disaster prone areas like Bangladesh suffer from malnutrition. Besides,Drought like disaster was considered as the only disaster to destroy crops. But, other natural disaster, especially cyclone issue was not highlighted giving importance. Cyclone Sidr and Aila caused a severe damage in Bangladesh. South-western coastal areas of the country became unfertile for agriculture. The price of rice became high when the production of paddy faces trouble due to climate change.
According to the report, salty water due to cyclone makes coastal lands barren. Sudden flood and ghastly wind hamper trees. Climate change damage agricultural system and force people to fine another option for livelihood. Starvation and death may be occurred. Already, the production rate of rice, wheat and other crops has been decreased. It would create more horrible situation if the climate situation does not change.
Basically the report of FAO mentioned the hard reality of Bangladesh following natural disaster. Effective steps should be taken from the government to solve such condition. Bangladesh is a land of potentiality. Talented people of the country are achieving successes in various sectors including agriculture, industry, science and other key areas. But, the negative impact of climate change is putting our motherland in great danger. All the achievements are going to fade away.
The concerned authorities have to select sustainable strategy to save our beloved motherland. Afforestation is must to safe coastal areas from cyclone like natural disaster. Embankment dam should be built so that salty water from ocean cannot mix with sweet water. Planning is needed to control water pollution and water management. Moreover, after consulting with specialists, necessary steps should be taken so that cultivators can cope with the climate changes.
