Three killed as train hits pick-up van

Sirajganj Correspondent: Three people were killed and two others were injured as Moitree Express smashed a pick-up van at Kamarkhanda upazila in Sirajganj on Saturday.

The incident took place at unprotected rail-crossing at Koyelgati area on Dhaka-Ishwardi route.

The deceased were known as pick-up driver Surja Mia, son of Rohom Ali of Borokura village of Kamarkhanda upazila, Rafiqul Islam, 37, son of Bisha Mondal of Pakuria village, and Nehar, 36, son of Abdul Hamid of the same village.

Abdul Hamid, officer of Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the news.

He said, “The train smashed the cattle-laden pick-up van while it was heading towards Janatarhat, leaving one person and two cattle dead on the spot. Two of the five injured succumbed on their way to hospital.
