Titu being elected mayor uncontested in Mymensingh city polls

Staff Correspondent, Mymensigh: Awami League (AL) nominated Ikramul Haque Titu is set to be elected uncontested maiden Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) mayor as Jatiya Party candidate Jahangir Ahmed announced to withdraw his candidacy.

Jahangir announced over candidacy withdrawal at press conference at a local hotel on Tuesday afternoon.

He said while briefing media that Jatiya Party has a good political relation with Awami League. Awami League did not nominate any candidate during national polls as Rowshan Ershad contested in the constituency. So, Jatiya Party will not contest the polls against Awami League candidate.

Five aspirants had submitted nomination papers to contest mayoral race in MCC polls. Of them, three were independent candidate whose nominations were cancelled. They could not secure legality in appeal too.

Of the rest two, JP candidate Jahangir declared to withdraw his candidacy, leaving the field empty for AL candidate.
