‘Top terrorist’ killed in Narayanganj ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: A top terrorist and also a drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the district early Sunday.

The gunfight took place around 4.00am in Shahidnagar area of Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Hasan, accused in more than 20 cases.

Senior Assistant Police Super Apel Uddin of RAB-11 said that being tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the rented house of Rabiul Hasan to recover drugs.

When RAB members knocked the door, the criminal opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight. Later, RAB members rescued him with bullet injury. Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital.

Two Rab men were also injured during the brief gunfight.

The elite force members also recovered a foreign pistol, four rounds of bullets and 2,500 Yaba tablets from the spot.
