Transport worker dies in clash with cops in capital

Staff Correspondent: A transport worker was reportedly killed and several others were injured in a clash with police in Postogola area over the Buriganga bridge toll on Friday.

Transport workers of Keraniganj staged a demonstration by blocking the road in Hasnabad area demanding cancellation of bridge toll for Buriganga first bridge, in the morning.

The agitators started hurling brick chunks at the policemen as the latter obstructed them to demonstrate. Police used tear shells and rubber bullets at them, in retaliation.

A worker was taken to Ikuria General Hospital with bullet injures, where doctors declared him dead around 10:00am, the agitating workers said. But the dead worker was not identified yet.

Movement of vehicles was disrupted on the both sides of the bridge and in the area due to the clash since the morning.

Last reported, the situation came under control after around 12:00pm and movement of vehicle resumed, but tension is still prevailing there.
