Transport workers' strike 'unfortunate': Law Minister

Senior Correspondent: Law Minister Anisul Huq termed the ongoing strike of transport workers in protest of a court verdict as 'unfortunate'.

The minister came up with the statement at a press conference held at the secretariat on Tuesday.

The minister's reaction came after transport workers enforced strike over the sentencing of bus driver Jamir Hossain in a case filed over a road accident in 2011.

The additional district and sessions court in Manikganj on February 22 pronounced the verdict and held the 50-year-old guilty of reckless driving and negligence that led to the deaths of five people including eminent filmmaker Tareque Masud and media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk.

Law Minister Anisul Huq also called upon the leaders of transport workers to withdraw their protest and place their statements before court.
