Two arrested over allegedly spreading rumours

Staff Correspondent: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested two persons including a woman for their in alleged involvement in spreading rumours and fake news on social media centering the forthcoming 11th parliamentary election.
The arrestees were known as Mukta Chowdhury alias Moni Chowdhury alias Usha Mukta Usha and Md Mofassel Hossain.
They were arrested in separate drives conducting by RAB-2 in areas under the capital’s Tejgaon and Sher-e-Banglanagar police stations.
Md Saiful Malik, assistant director (media) of RAB-2, confirmed the news on Tuesday evening.
He said, “They were spreading motivated status and instigative information on different social media including facebook.”
“Moni Chowdhury was arrested from in front of Museum of Liberation at Sher-e-Banglanagar while Mofassel from from Farmgate area,” he added.
According to RAB, centering the upcoming 11the general election to be held on December 30, they were in involved in spreading propaganda to question journalism, sensitive issues against the state, through fake social media accounts and facebook. They were also spreading fake news against the government, EC, Army, Police and Judiciary.
