Two die after having chemical thinking of molasses

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Two people have died and 10 others fallen sick after they have had chemical substances thinking of molasses in Rajshai.

The incident was happened at Chabbishnagar village of the district's Godagarhi upazila.

The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH). Two of them are in critical state.

The deceased were identified as Bakul Hossain, 38, son of late Tofizul Islam, and Tohidul Islam, 25, son of Yousuf Ali of the village.

Hifzur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Godagarhi Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said eight people of Rajshahi city work in a medicine factory of Sapura area.  On Tuesday, they took chemical substances with bread thinking if as molasses which was storing in a drum. One of them took it filling in a bottle to home as he tasted it well. Later on Wednesday night, he along with four of his friends took it mixing with soft drinks. Since that night, they had been falling ill. They were rushed to RMCH early Thursday where attending doctors declared the two dead.
