Two drug peddlers killed in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Two drug traders were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Karamja area under Karnahar Police Station of the metropolitan around 11:30pm on Thursday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately. But they were drug peddlers, claimed RAB.

According to an SMS sent by RAB-5, an incident of gunfight occurred at Karamja area between drug peddlers and members of RAB, leaving two killed on the spot. A huge amount of drug, arms and bullets were recovered from the spot.

Billal Uddin, duty officer at Emergency Department of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), said RAB brought two people- aged nearly 30 to 40 years- in dead to the hospital on Thursday midnight. Bullet wounds were found on their chests. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue as unknown.

Major A M Ashraful Islam, deputy captain of RAB-5, said drug traders fired on RAB members when they went on drive against drug. Law enforcers also fired on them for self-defence, leaving the two killed.
