Two ‘drug traders’ killed in Cox’s Bazar

Two suspected drug dealers have been killed in separate two ‘gunfights’ with BGB and police in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station, said a drug trader was killed in a gunfight with police at Maheshkhaliapara under Teknaf sadar union early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Aziz, 24, son of Saleh Ahmed of Dailpara of the upazila.

The OC said police arrested Aziz earlier and as per his confessional statement, the law enforcers went on a drive along with him to recover yaba and firearms. As soon as they reached there, Aziz's cohorts opened fire on them forcing police to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Bullet-hit Aziz was found lying on the ground after the gunfight, the OC said, adding that he was taken to Teknaf Health Complex where doctors referred him to Sadar Hospital. However, he was declared dead at the district hospital.

He said police recovered a gun, seven bullets and 3,000 yaba pills from the spot.

Pradip also claimed that three policemen were injured in the gunfight.

In another incident, a suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with BGB at Madina Jora under Whykong union of the upazila early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rahim Uddin alias Rafik (37), son of late Abdul Jalim at Moddokanjorpara of Whykong union.

Two BGB members were also injured in the gunfight, BGB claimed.
