Two including woman killed by muggers in city

Staff Correspondent: Two people including a woman were killed by muggers in the capital on Friday.

The separate incidents were taken place at Dhanmondi and Saidabad area in the wee hours of the day.

Dhanmondi police said Helena Begum, 35, resident of Green Corner of Kalabagan area, was walking on Dhanmondi road no. 6. She fell under a private car while several muggers snatched her vanity bag from the vehicle. The muggers ran over her, leaving her seriously injured.

Locals rushed the woman to Green Life Hospital where attending doctors declared her dead, police said.

Meanwhile, muggers stabbed a man to death near Saidabad rail track in the capital early Friday.

A gang of muggers attacked Ibrahim, 33, son of Bazlur Rahman, hailing from Khulna as he started moving after getting down from a bus around 4:30am and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, said Bachchu Miah,  sub-inspector at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Ibrahim was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead around 6:00am.
