Two jailed for 7yrs for tax evasion

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sentenced two persons to seven years’ imprisonment in a case filed for tax evasion by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court also fined them Tk 5, 90, 080 each.

Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday.

The convicts are Selim Ahmed, and M Kamrul Islam, directors of M/S Jessy Knitwear Ltd.

The court also issued arrest warrant for them as they were fugitive during the announcement of the verdict.

ACC’s lawyer Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Jewel said though the accused are on bail in the case. But they were absent in the court during announcement of the verdict.
