Cyclone Mora: Two ships with reliefs at Kutubdia, St Martin

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Upon the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, members of Bangladesh Navy started distribution of relief materials among the people affected by cyclonic storm 'Mora' at Saint Martin’s island and Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar district from Tuesday afternoon.

SM Shamim Alam, information officer of Isha Khan, Chittagong's naval base, confirmed the matter.

Two Navy ships-- BNS Samudra Ovijan and BNS Khadem—reached the cyclone affected areas with emergency relief materials, including five tonnes rice, two tonnes Dals, three tonnes muri, eight tonnes dry rice (Chira), two tonnes molasses, 3,000 pieces candle lights, 300 kgs polythene bags, 100 packets match boxes and 20 tons pure drinking water and treatment materials, Shamim Alam said.

Besides, two special medical teams of the Navy consisting of 23 members have also been working for providing free treatment, life saving medicines and oral saline in the affected areas, he said.

He added that relief distribution as well as medical services of the Navy will continue until the situation is improved.
