Two yrs of killing: Chargesheet in Mitu murder case soon

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Police have failed to submit the chargesheet in the killing case of former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, even after two years of her gruesome murder.

However, officials involved in the investigation said the enquiry into the case has almost done and the report would be submitted to the court within a day or two.

Md Kamruzzaman, additional deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of Chatttogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), also the investigation officer (IO) in the case, said answers of all questions will be found once the chargesheet would be submitted. Nothing will not be disclosed before submitting it.

However, he said there is a good headway in the case, he added.

On June 5, 2016, unidentified assailants gunned down Mitu at the port city's GEC intersection while she was going to drop her son Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus of Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.

Soon after the incident, Babul filed a murder case with Panchlaish Police Station against three unidentified men.

Later, police arrested four people, including Abu Nasur Gunu, Shah Zaman alias Robin, Md Anwar, Md Motaleb Mia alias Wasim from different places in this connection.

Of them, Anwar and Wasim gave confessional statements to the court. Meanwhile, police arrested ‘arms supplier’ Ehteshamul Haque Bhola and his assistant Md Monir with a pistol.

Police arrested Musa's elder brother Saidul Shikder Shakur and Shahjahan for providing motorbike for using in the killing. The rest are Motaleb Mia Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque alias Bhola, and Md Shahjahan.

Wasim and Anwar made confessional statements before a court, implicating seven people, including Musa, who directly took part in the killing.

Meanwhile, Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain accused Babul of being involved in the murder. “He (Babul) should be implicated in the murder case... if he’s not, we’ll go to the court.”

CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar said they investigated the allegation raised by Mitu's father but did not find Babul's involvement in the murder so far.

However, police said the chargesheet was prepared making Musa an accused.
