UP chairman held in rape case

Feni Correspondent: Nurul Islam, chairman of Phulgazi Sadar Union in Feni district, has been arrested for allegedly raping a housewife.

Police arrested him on Wednesday midnight.

The arrestee is also the joint secretary of the upazila unit of the ruling Awami League.

According to sources, a woman along with her nephew went to the chairman on Wednesday afternoon to settle a dispute. Later, the chairman sent her nephew to a nearby shop and violated the housewife. Hearing screams, locals rushed to the house and took her to Phulgazi Upazila Health Complex. She was later transferred to Sadar hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Mother-in-law of the victim filed a rape case against the chairman with Phulgazi Thana on Wednesday night.
