Upazila chairman shot dead in Rangamati

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: An upazila parishad chairman has been shot to death by miscreants in Rangamati.

The deceased was identified as Shakti Maan Chakma, chairman of Naniachar upazila and also vice-president of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS -- MN Larma faction).

The incident took place at the upazila parishad office around 11:00am on Thursday.

The incident created a lot of turmoil in the area. Law enforcers surrounded the entire area to avoid further violence in this connection.

It was understood that miscreants swooped on Shakti Maan Chakma on his way to upazila parishad office by a motorbike from his official residence of the upazila premises. Shakti Maan fell down from his motorbike after two gunmen fired at him. Later, one of the gunmen shot him going forward to very close to him and fled the scene.

Shakti Maan was rushed to Naniachar Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

Alamgir Kabir, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rangamati, confirmed the news.
