Dumuria-Bhaluka Upazila polls postponed

Staff Correspondent: Dumuria Upazila Parishad Election in Khulna has been postponed.

The High Court postponed the polls till April 10 as the appeal of two Awami League backed two candidate to get Boat symbol is not solved yet. 

The court also directed Deputy Commissioner of Khulna to solve the symbol distribution issue.

Meanwhile, the court also stayed the elections to Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh district.

An HC division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday.

Senior lawyer M K Rahman moved for writ petitioner Hossain Zoardar while layer Arif Moinuddin Chowdhury assisted him.

Earlier, the ruling Awami League primarily allotted the party symbol 'Boat' to Md Mostafa Sarwar and Shanewaz Hossain Zoardar. Later, the party finalized Hossain Zoardar for the polls. But, Md Mostafa Sarwar got Boat symbol from the returning office.

Later, on March 7, Shanewaz Hossain Zoardar filed an appeal against the symbol distribution by returning office.
