Uyghur woman urges China to release her husband

Mairinisha Abuduaini is not accepting that her husband has just 'disappeared'. She's now demanding the Chinese authorities release the father of her two children.

Yiliyasijiang Reheman’s wife, on behalf of Amnesty International said, “My name is Mairinisha Abuduaini and I have two beautiful children with my husband. I loved watching my eldest and my husband play together – they were like best friends. But he’s never met our little girl. He wasn’t by my side when she was born.”

That’s because I haven’t seen or had any information about Yiliyasijiang’s whereabouts since 2017. Now I fear he was detained by the Chinese government when he was studying in Egypt more than two years ago.

On the day my husband disappeared, around 200 other students were rounded up in Egypt – 16 of them were deported to China. The Chinese government is rounding up Uyghur people all over the world and forcing them into internment camps. Since 2017 up to 1 million, mainly Muslim, people have been torn from their families and locked up in these camps in China.

"While I wait for us to be together once again, I won’t stop fighting. I demand that my husband is released as soon as possible. What the authorities have done has destroyed our family, separating my innocent children from their father. We need him back, and we need him now."
