Vehicles in long queue at Paturia

Manikganj Correspondent: Thousands of Eid holidaymakers have been suffering immensely due to long tailback at Paturia ferry ghat.

Desperate to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their nearest and dearest ones, the home-bound people got stranded at the terminal.

Though the ferry movement is normal, heavy pressure of vehicles caused long tailback since Wednesday noon.

Zillur Rahman, AGM of Aricha office of Bangladesh Inland-Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said some 17 (small and large) ferries are plying on Paturia-Daulatdia route to cross the vehicles. One more ferry will be added in with those.  There is also a plan to bring another ferry from Narayanganj dockyard if pressure increases.

Passengers will not suffer more as there are enough ferries to cross vehicles, he hoped.

However, more than three hundreds vehicles were seen stranding at Paturia ghat at afternoon when the report was filed.

SP Mahfuzur Rahman visited Paturia ghat at noon. He said at least some six hundred law enforcers were deployed to ensure law and order and traffic management. They are always alert to help passengers crossing the ghat.
