‘Voters to cast their votes peacefully’

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said people of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will cast their votes peacefully for the candidates of their choice. For this, enough number of law enforcers will be deployed at centres during the polls.

The Election Commissioner came up with the expectation to the reporters at Khulna circuit house on Sunday.

Shahadat Hossain said, “All offices concerned including local administration and regional election officers were instructed to take steps ensure level-playing field for all candidates to campaign in the election.”

Earlier, he held a meeting with different level administrative officials at the conference room of Khulna circuit house around 11:00am.

In reply to a query, he said, “There is no plan to deploy Army in during Khulna city polls. But all effective steps to hold the polls in free and fair manners will be taken.”

“Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in 4/5 centres of a ward on trial basis to make aware people over it. The centres will be brought under Close Circuit (CC) cameras,” he added.

The election is scheduled to be held on May 15.
