‘Walton sets example of friendly relation between owner-workers’

Economic Reporter: National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque said that he has witnessed friendly relation between owners and workers at Walton factory and the organization has set example to local and foreign companies by ensuring all kinds of facilities for workers.

The NHRC Chairman came up with the remark after he visited the factory of Walton, the country’s leading manufacturer of electronics, electrical, ICT, home and kitchen appliances products, in Chandra of Gazipur on Wednesday (1 August 2018).

Expressing his satisfaction over the management of Walton factory he observed that employees were spontaneously working there in a friendly environment. He thanked Walton authorities for ensuring such a suitable environment for workers.

About the issue of profit sharing among workers, NHRC Chairman said: There are many multinational companies in the country, especially of Europe, who do not distribute dividends among workers. However, Walton, being a local company, is distributing a certain portion of its profits among workers which is exemplary for others. He also praised Walton for not recruiting child laborers in its factory.

Kazi Reazul Hoque also said that the domestic production increased remarkably reducing the import cost while employment and business opportunities have been created for many people with the establishment of the Walton factory in the country.

During his visit, the NHRC Chairman was accompanied by the commission’s secretary Hiranamaya Baroi, director (complain and investigation) Al-Mahmud Fayzul Kabir, director (admin and finance) Kazi Arfan Ashik, deputy director Mohammad Gazi Salauddin and M Rabiul Islam, Public Relation Officer Farhana Sayed.

Earlier, the NHRC chairman and his entourage were welcomed by SM Shamsul Alam, managing director of Walton Group, upon their arrival at the factory premises.

Walton Group Executive Director SM Zahid Hasan and Sirajul Islam, Media Adviser Enayet Ferdous and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

They then enjoyed a corporate documentary on Walton in the conference room of the administrative building of Walton High-tech Industries Ltd and visited the well-decorated product display center. The NHRC Chairman was amazed witnessing the attractive design and finish of Walton energy efficient inverter technology refrigerator. He also operated a Walton brand laptop and praised it stylish design, attractive features and high quality. 

Later, the NHRC team visited various production plant of Walton Hi-Tech Industries, Walton Micro-Tech Corporation and Walton Digi-Tech Industries Ltd including its Green Refrigerator Production Plant that uses environment-friendly R600a refrigerant. They also visited Walton medical center and dining spaces and expressed satisfaction at the overall facilities for workers, safety measures and fair working environment.
