We have to build exploitation-free, democratic Bangladesh

August 15 is the National Mourning Day for Bangladesh. The day is the most heartbreaking and pathetic for Bangladesh and Bengali nation. This year we observed the 43rd anniversary of martyrdom of 'Greatest Bengali of All Time' and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A group of disgruntled army personnel assassinated Bangabandhu along with most of his family members and toppled his government in 1975. We pay rich tribute to the martyrs of 15 August. After three and half years of the independence, the assassination of Bangabandhu took place which was an irreparable loss. The killers of 15 August also killed Bangabandhu's wife Begum Fazilanunnessa Mujib, sons Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell, daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal, and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, Colonel Jamil, nephew freedom fighter Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni, his pregnant wife Arzoo Moni, brother-in-law Abdur Rab Serniabat and others.

Although the whole family of Bangabandhu was assassinated at the house of Dhanmandi 32 but the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, escaped the planned assassination with her sister Sheikh Rehana as they were staying in Germany with Dr MA Wazed Miah.

In 1971, the liberation war took place in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. People trusted his leadership and the father of the nation also valued the dignity of the people. His sacrifice for the country is unparalleled. When Bangabandhu dedicated himself for rebuilding the war-torn country, a group of disgruntled army personnel stopped the pace of Bengali nation's development through killing him. Even, the murders stopped the way of murder trial adopting indemnity act.

In 1996, 21 years after, Awami League formed government under the leadership of the daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina and removed the black law 'indemnity act'. Later, the trial was held under the existing penal code and in traditional session court of the country. Following the trial, some death row convicts were hanged and some fugitives are hiding abroad. Punishing them all, the nation can remove the black spot fully.

After getting independence, Bangabandhu took some important plans and programmes in economy, education, industry, commerce and foreign policy formulating an ideal constitution. But, the culprits halted the dream of Bangabandhu. The spirit of Bangladesh's liberation war face was hurt through the killing. Side- by -side the secular state policy of Bangladesh was abandoned. The killers of Bangabandhu and then rulers created many separations in the nation.

So, the national unity of 1971 should be restored as far as possible. It is possible to fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu implementing true democracy and rule of law. The national mourning day will be significant if we realize Bangabandhu's life struggle and dedicate ourselves to build his dreamt Sonar Bangla. The real tribute to Bangabandhu would be possible if we follow these activities.
