Staff Correspondent: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said people who deny Bangabandhu’s declaration of the country’s independence are anti-national.

He said, “those who deny the Genocide, the martyrdom of three million people, the four fundamental state principles and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are the ones who tried to take Bangladesh down the road to Pakistan following 15th August, 1975.”

He also said if we were to remain true to the spirit of our freedom, we should ensure that all forms of pro-Pakistan elements should be subdued and kept out of power.

The Minister came up with the observation while he was speaking at a seminar organized on the occasion of the Independence Day by the Department of Films and Publications at its office on Monday.

Inu said, "The Pakistanis wanted to erase the identity of Pakistan. When Bengalis asserted their identity Pakistan resorted to Genocide. And today's militants and their patrons were the puppets and proxies of Pakistan."

He said "Bangladesh could not fit into Pakistan, as Pakistan could not fit into Bangladesh. Those who desire such a scenario had to e kept out of politics."

He reiterated once again "Election, or for that matter politics, could not be an excuse for legitimizing militancy or their patrons. It is only open to people who believe in democracy and Bangladesh." Earlier in the morning, the minister laid floral wreaths at the National Memorial here at Savar.

Earlier on Sunday, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon inaugurated the candle light vigil at the Central Shaheed Minar in honor of the martyrs of 1971.
