Woman dies as police hold son without warrant

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: A sexagenarian woman died of cardiac arrest after she had known that police held her son without arrest warrant.

The elderly woman as known as Kajal Rekha, 60.

The incident took place at Kendua area of the district’s Rupganj upazila on Saturday night.

Two police men, who were found involved in the incident, have already been closed to the district police lines, according to Inspector Shaidul Islam, also In-Charge of Bholabo investigation centre.

The police members, who were closed are known as Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin and SI Sabbir Ahmed.

Victim businessman Tuhin said, “The two police men, claiming of having arrest warrant, held me when I was taking tea in front of Kendua Pond Garden on Saturday night. They refused to show the warrant as I challenged them. But they threatened to arrest me in another case. At one stage they demanded a handsome money to make me free.”

“Being informed, my elder brother Ripon, along with local councillor Jahirul Islam and Awami League leader Mainuddin, went to Zamzam Hotel and paid the police Tk 3,000. Later, they freed met,” he added.

Tuhin claimed, “Hearing news of my arrest, my mother had suddenly suffered cardiac arrest. She was whisked off to the local Dayem Uddin Hospital where doctors declared her dead.”

“We informed the matter to the district SP immediately in the night. Later, the two police men were closed as they were found involved in the incident,” he added.
