Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has rejected a writ petition filed for seeking cancellation of nomination paper of Awami League candidate for Dhaka-17 constituency Akbar Hossain Pathan alias Farooque.
Following the HC order, there is no legal bar for Farooque to contest the forthcoming December 30 general elections.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order on Wednesday.
The court rejected the petition considering the fact that the petition was not moved properly as Bangladesh Jatiya Party candidate Andalib Rahman Partha did not move any appeal before the Election Commission challenging Farooque’s candidacy.
Earlier on December 24, Partha filed the writ petition with the High Court challenging the Election Commission's decision allowing Farooque to contest the election saying that Farooque is a bank loan defaulter.
