Staff Correspondent: A writ petition was filed on Wednesday challenging the Election Commission’s decision that allowed 25 leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami to contest the 11th general election.
Hearing on the writ petition would be held tomorrow at the bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam, said writ petitioner Tania Amir.
Barrister Tania Amir said, “A writ was filed with the High Court challenging legality of Jamaat’s registration in 2009. Later, the HC declared the registration of Jamaat illegal.”
“As Jamaat has no registration so, the leaders of the party are not allowed to contest the polls with their party symbol. Even, there is no scope to participate the elections with the symbol of other party,” the lawyer said.
Earlier, four people, including Bangladesh Tarikat Federation Secretary General Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri, filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the Jamaat leaders' nominations.
